Material planning worksheet · English

Room painting material planner

Estimate wall painting area after openings, finish-coat paint, primer, and complete tins from editable product coverage and pack sizes.

Scope and safety: Coverage varies with product, porosity, surface preparation and application method. Replace example inputs with the actual paint and primer labels before buying.

How the materials are calculated

Every allowance is an editable input. The calculator uses only user-provided dimensions and rates, rather than assuming regional products or construction codes.

  1. Gross wall area = perimeter × height; net area = gross − openings.
  2. Finish paint L = net area × coats ÷ finish coverage × (1 + allowance).
  3. Primer L = net area ÷ primer coverage × (1 + allowance); one primer coat is assumed.
  4. Whole tins = ceil(litres ÷ manufacturer tin size).

Important exclusions

Ceilings, trim, spillage beyond the chosen allowance, unusual textures and substrate-specific priming are not included. Coverage rates are illustrative until the actual products are selected.

Professional check: Confirm the construction design, real product label, site measurements and requirements with qualified contractors or engineers where necessary. No third party has independently certified these assemblies.
